But the gem-like lucidity of the unique has eluded most earlier translations, and so they have obscured a few of its central concepts.
Based on custom, it was written round sixth century BC by the sage Laozi, a record-keeper on the Zhou dynasty courtroom, by whose title the textual content is understood in China. The textual content’s true authorship and date of composition or compilation are nonetheless debated, though the oldest excavated textual content dates again to the late 4th century BC.
