Overview: I’m a romantic at heart. A true romantic. I love the idea of a happy ending, so much so I have trouble writing a sad one. The world is sad enough. I like escaping in fiction. That’s just me. I like sarcasm and snark – but I’m not sure a sad ending is in me. If you’re looking for an edge like that, you’re probably looking in the wrong place.
7. Ghostly Asylum – Something haunted this way comes … and it means big things for Ghost Hunters, Inc.
It seems Phantoms, one of the most popular shows on the Independent Ghost Hunting Network, is interested in doing a location shoot at Ludington Asylum, which just happens to be located on a small island near Whisper Cove.
Since childhood, Harper Harlow has been infatuated with the story of a crazy doctor gone rogue and the resulting investigation that found numerous missing patients (but no bodies) at the former institution. Producers want to feature Harper and Zander on their show, and Zander is happy to oblige despite Harper’s reticence.
Sensing his girlfriend is struggling under the weight of her worry, Jared Monroe takes some vacation time and decides to tag along on what’s supposed to be a three-day excursion full of mayhem and madcap adventure.
Not long after landing, people start disappearing and Harper’s not convinced it’s the ghosts running roughshod over the group. It seems they might have a killer in their midst, although unraveling the hows and the whys of an old mystery overlapping with a new one is anything but easy.
It’s a race to the finish for Whisper Cove’s favorite ghost hunter. She has to solve a mystery with ties to the past, save her friends and the man she loves in the present, and find a way to help the trapped spirits so they can look forward to a different future.
Of course, Harper has to survive herself to do it. Someone is bound and determined to make sure that doesn’t happen, and it’s going to take everyone working together to survive until the final day.
8. Ghostly Tricks – It’s the most magical time of the year … for Harper and Zander, that is. Not Christmas, mind you, but Halloween.
That’s right, Whisper Cove’s favorite ghost-hunting duo are decking out their house for their favorite holiday – and they’re only mildly fighting while doing it. All that comes to a screeching halt when Harper notices her neighbor acting odd and realizes he’s dead … leaving nothing but a cranky ghost and a lot of questions behind.
Henry Spencer wasn’t well liked (to say the least) and Harper is convinced he was murdered while her boyfriend Jared, who happens to be the police officer investigating the incident, is leaning toward natural causes. Unfortunately for Harper, Henry seems confused and can’t answer the obvious questions when it comes to his death.
In quick succession, Harper realizes not only is she right but Henry might be underselling the danger. She’s in trouble … again … and Jared has no idea how to get her out of it.
Between cantankerous ghosts, endless suspects and a teenage granddaughter who seems like a viable suspect despite her age, Harper has her hands full. She needs to solve the case, save the day and put Henry to rest … and she needs to do it before the Halloween season kicks into overdrive.
It’s all out mayhem for Harper and Zander, and the only thing they’re truly focused on is getting out alive.
9. Ghostly Distress – Halloween is right around the corner and Harper Harlow should be at her happiest. She’s officially moving in with her boyfriend Jared Monroe, after all, and into a house that’s right across the street so she won’t be separated from her best friend.
All should be well – and it is – until one of Harper’s customers stumbles across a dead body in the cemetery during a tour one night.
The woman, a local who worked at the bank, was last seen at a rather infamous party and her movements before and after that are murky. She has ties to a lot of people, and not all of them are upstanding citizens.
Even though she’s tired due to the busy season, Harper is determined to get answers. Jared would prefer her taking a break from her investigative activities but turning her back on a soul in need isn’t in Harper’s nature. She’s determined to find the truth and Jared promises to keep her safe while she does it.
Whisper Cove is hopping place right now and suspects are around every corner. Harper will have to dig deep if she wants answers … and constantly look over her shoulder to make sure death hasn’t picked out another customer.
When the truth comes out, Harper will learn a hard lesson about life and death. Not everything is as it appears, you see, and sometimes a sad truth is worse than a convenient lie.
10. Ghostly Despair – Almost six years ago, Harper Harlow’s boyfriend was involved in a car accident and walked away from the scene. Severely injured, law enforcement believed him dead and gave up looking.
It seems they were wrong.
Quinn Jackson is back … and he’s very much alive. His memory isn’t what it used to be, but he’s quickly putting things together. One of the first people he wants to see when his life comes roaring back is the woman he left behind.
Quinn doesn’t know what he wants, but Harper is very much taken. Although his death left her searching for answers and respite, she’s moved on. Her current boyfriend Jared Monroe is suspicious of Quinn’s return even though the man swears he’s only visiting for closure and nothing else.
Murder is on the menu, though, and when a grifter ends up dead, Quinn is one of Jared’s first suspects. Harper isn’t happy with her boyfriend’s reaction but she’s willing to work with him.
Together, Harper and Jared have to solve the mysteries of the past and survive the present.
It’s going to be a long, hard slog and there are no guarantees.
11. Ghostly Holiday– Christmas is here, and Harper Harlow and Jared Monroe have big plans for the holidays. Harper is ready to move into their new house – and find him the perfect gift. And Jared? Well, he’s gearing up to propose and he’s making Zander ring shop with him.
All those plans go out the window when a little girl named Zoe Mathers goes missing and her traumatized mother is zero help in tracking down the culprit. Suspects are few and far between, although Zoe’s deadbeat father is of immediate interest.
Between his most recent ex-girlfriend and potential sex offenders in the area, Jared and his partner have their hands full. Harper doesn’t make things easier when she stumbles upon the ghost of one of their suspects, and a whole new world of possibilities opens up.
Between Jared’s mother visiting, Harper’s ex-boyfriend asking for a visit in jail, and Jared waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question, Whisper Cove’s favorite ghost hunters have their hands full.
Jared, Harper, and Zander are determined to get a little girl home in time for Christmas, and celebrate their first big holiday together.
They just have to survive first.
It’s going to be a wacky Christmas, and if everything goes right, dreams are about to come true. Come along for the ride.
12. Ghostly Ordeal – Harper Harlow has everything she wants.
She has a new house … a new fiancé … and some time off work because the stretch after the holidays is generally slow. All that changes when she gets a call from her mother during a storm.
Gloria Harlow has a lot of attitude and it’s on full display when Harper and her betrothed, Detective Jared Monroe, show up on the scene of a murder. Gloria’s boyfriend is dead … and the story she’s telling doesn’t exactly fit the scene.
Jared finds himself in a conundrum. He loves Harper more than life itself but her mother is a legitimate suspect … and he can’t ignore his duties and cover for a woman he’s never very much liked. His life is thrown into turmoil when Gloria decides to move in – she’s too traumatized to stay by herself, after all – and he and Harper start working on the case from different angles.
When you add in Harper’s salty best friend Zander, who is enjoying the show far too much, and her father, things start spiraling quickly.
Harper is determined to clear her mother – and get her out of the house before Jared explodes – and she wants to do it in record time. Unfortunately for her, the dead guy was known as a world-class jerk and the list of suspects is long and sundry.
The two sides are going to have to come together to solve this one … and even then, the final answer might tear their entire world apart.
13. Ghostly Fears – Ten years ago, Harper Harlow lost a classmate. Jennifer Jessup was sweet, nice, and seemingly aimless in life. She came from a good family, lived on an island, and was spoiled with every material gift that could possibly be bestowed upon her.
She was still unhappy.
Now, a decade later, her father Byron Jessup has approached Harper with a business opportunity. He wants her – and the rest of her operation, of course – to spend a long weekend on his island. Other psychics and ghost hunters will be there, as will his family. The goal? To find out what happened to Jennifer.
Harper feels weighed down with guilt, enough so that she can’t see straight. She feels bad about not reaching out to Jennifer when she was still alive and even worse about not looking for her once she went missing.
Harper is out of her element. The other psychics are driving her crazy … and making her nervous. She can’t even decide if she believes Jennifer is missing or dead. When another woman on the island disappears, Harper is left with nothing but endless questions.
She’s determined to find the answers, even if she has to delve into the past to do it. Someone doesn’t want her getting those answers, however, and it’s going to be a fight to the death to see who comes out the other side.
14. Ghostly Charms – Harper Harlow thought the only thing she was going to have to worry about in the shadow of spring was planning her wedding. She was wrong.
A string of break-ins in Whisper Cove have caught the attention of the cops, including her fiancé Jared Monroe. Things take a turn for the worse when one of those break-ins results in the death of a local barber. It seems what was once written off as teenage hijinks is something else entirely.
In addition to the break-ins, Harper finds herself distracted by a new resident. He’s bringing an art gallery to town … as well as his troubled sister.
Rain Porter doesn’t want to be in Southeastern Michigan and she’s hiding a big secret. Harper is determined to help the girl until the young woman pushes the exact wrong buttons.
Things aren’t what they seem and the deeper Harper digs the more she worries that she doesn’t really want to find an answer. When a ghost from the other side of the state shows up and starts invading her dreams, things go from bad to worse.
Jared wants nothing more than to protect Harper, but there are some things he can’t fight … and a ghost is one of them.
It’s going to take everyone working together to find a way out of this one and even then survival is not a given. Jump on the ghost train with Harper, Jared, and Zander … because this one is going to be a wild ride.
15. Ghostly Business – Every “quiet” town has secrets. The one nobody expected is about to rock Whisper Cove.
During what should’ve been a romantic double date, a fire breaks out at a historic home. Harper Harlow and Jared Monroe race to the scene to make sure nobody is trapped or in danger … and discover one heck of a secret.
It seems the house, which was owned by a solitary older woman who kept to herself, was being run as a brothel. Now she’s dead and there’s a bevy of married men on the hot seat for her murder.
Harper has a cantankerous ghost to deal with … and a bevy of odd emotions running roughshod over her mental health. She feels like an invader in her own skin, and she can’t figure out why.
Jared’s problems are even more pronounced. Whenever he questions an individual present at the house that night, they threaten him with a legal suit before clamming up. On top of that, he’s worried about Harper, who seems fixated on the case.
Since the moment they met, they were joined at the hip … and lips. Now, that unshakeable bond they’ve always reveled in is going to be put to the test.
Nothing can break them apart … but that doesn’t mean outside forces won’t try, and they might be willing to kill to do it.
